~ Charities we helped out at this month ~

“A Walk To Remember 2011” was held at the Loma Linda Children’s hospital
and our lodge shot photos and printed onsite for them. We also shot a
“Wedding Bell Wishes” Wedding for Make-A-Wish, Helped at the Pomona
Fair with our service dogs and shot photos and printed for the March AFB.
"In the East"
I would like to thank everyone who came out and supported our breakfast fundraiser
and “Masonic Collectibles” booth. Especially Brothers, Shannon, Galeana, and Magill
for all their hard work in making this happen. These are just but two of our fundraisers that will be expanded
upon for future events. I would also like to thank Bro. Craig Pitts for the beautiful gavels and
sounding blocks that he made for the principal officer stations, absolutely beautiful work Craig.
As fall is in the air and the changing of the seasons is upon us so to have we had changes in our craft. By
the time this article is printed Grand Lodge would have already convened and our new Grand Master and
his officers duly installed. Congratulations to Most Worshipful Frank Loui and his line of officers and a
heartfelt thank you to our Past Grand Master M.W. William J. Bray III for an outstanding job you did this
year. It was an honor to be part of your year and the outstanding program you presented. We also have
another change a little bit closer to home. Wor. Bill Keel will be stepping down as the inspector of the
818th Masonic District and Wor. Dave Hall will be appointed to the position of inspector. Wor. Keel we
thank you for all that you do for our craft and I thank you for being such a good friend and brother to me
during my term as master, we all look forward to seeing where your Masonic career takes you. Wor. Hall
I’m excited to be part of your district and am anxious to see where you take this district. You have big shoes to fill and I’m sure
you will do an amazing job. In closing we have a great project coming up for our Vets at Loma Linda. The lodge will be working
with the youth groups October and November putting together ornaments for our annual Christmas Caroling at the hospital. As
was stated at our September dinner we are asking that members donate bags of sugar free hard candy to be placed inside the ornaments
which will distributed to the patients. Each person who donates will be given a ticket for a drawing. The more a person
donates to our cause the better your chances become. We are accepting candy only. No monetary donations. Those can be given to
“V.A. Ammo Can” for future V.A. events.
Wor. Art Philamalee – Is out of hospital and is home doing well. He attended Grand Lodge in San

Jobs Daughters / DeMolay
On the first weekend of September, from the second to the fifth or Friday to Monday, the Southern California Jurisdiction of DeMolay held its annual Conclave event, where the new jurisdiction officers are installed and fun is had by all. Being part of the Southern California Jurisdiction, our DeMolay chapter participated in the festivities and low-sleep weekend. It was my first Conclave in about two years of being in DeMolay; there was some talk among other DeMolay that this year's Conclave wasn't as good as last year's. The one they were talking about must have been ridiculously awesome, because this one was quite fun. Throughout the weekend, I met several other DeMolay from the jurisdiction; board games were played until heinous hours of the morning, loud music was played while they boogied heartily, and mild harm was done to one another while rubber spheres were pelted across an arena of dodge ball.
Of our Chapter, I believe eight DeMolay were able to attend all weekend; of the Jurisdiction, I honestly do not know how many came. But I do know that there were many, many DeMolay, and I'm certain just about all of them had fun during Conclave Dodge ball, Nerf gun war & Basketball * Sweetheart & President * Delegates at Congress session.

Junior Councilor of Moreno Valley DeMolay

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Brother Sid Homan 3/31/22 – 9/15/11 to that Grand Lodge on High….
Brother Sid was Initiated 4/15/52 Passed 2/14/53 and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on 4/30/53. He was a member of the Jurisdictions of Florida and California for 58 years. Sid served in the U.S. Air Force and will be cremated and interned at Riverside National Cemetery. I am truly going to miss this fine man and his witty banter at our dinners. He was always willing to say grace and impart his wisdom of the many years he was involved in Masonry. I had spoken with him just 7 days ago and he was in good health, however quite frail. At this time the family is making arrangements and has requested a Masonic Service. I will be in touch with you as the date for the service becomes finalized and will be requesting the services of a funeral team.

Hello my name is Arianne Gray and I am from Bethel #35 Moreno Valley. I currently hold the office of Guide, and as a line officer I have many duties to fulfill such as planning fundraisers. One of our fundraisers was selling Macy's Coupon Books and part of the money was used for our secret trip on Sunday July 31st. We all found out we were going to Six Flags Magic Mountain when we saw all the signs and the rides above the trees. My personal reaction was excitement, being that I haven't been there since 3rd grade and I am now in 8th grade. We were there all day and rode so many rides, and the average wait in the lines was under an hour so we rode a lot of the big rides as well as the little mini rides. We took many pictures as a Bethel and with characters. The weather was extremely strange, it went from raining to being humid then to being scorching hot ! But one thing I love about my Bethel is that we make fun out everything wherever we go. So as guide I love being able to say that I help plan for some amazing memories in Job's Daughters!

Lodge Management Certification Programs!
Secondly, there are 4 upcoming Lodge Management Certification Programs (2 in the North (Milpitas on June 18th and Stockton on July 23) and 2 in the South (Riverside on June 11 and San Diego on July 9) in the next two months. This is a training and development series for California Masonic Leaders and is open to all Master Masons. Managing a Lodge is more difficult than ever. Attracting and retaining members, meeting the program needs of a diverse membership, effective communication, managing finances, and governance of a hall association are some of the challenges lodge leaders face.
The Lodge Management Certification Program will arm you with the tools and the training to deal with these issues and more. The program offers different courses, each presented in an intensive one-day workshop taught by some of our most knowledgeable and experienced Masons. The courses are designed for Lodge Officers, committee members, trustees and hall association directors. Other Grand Lodge leaders are also encouraged to attend, including district inspectors and committeemen.
Course in the certification program will be taught in four cities this summer. Select one course and the city you where you will attend. You may register for other courses in other cities using the same registration form. Each course is a full day and covers four critical topics.
The four course are: Program Planning Course (Annual Program Planning, Event Planning, Stated Meetings and Degrees and Increasing interest in Lodge Programs), Lodge Finance Course (Essentials in Lodge Finance, Lodge Budget and Reporting, Audit Procedures and Investments and Long-Range Planning), Hall Association Course (Corporate Structure, Roles and Responsibilities, Finances and Reporting and Capital Planning), Membership Development Course (Membership Trends, Effective Use of the Pass It On Program, Masonic Information Night Programs and Member Retention Strategies) and Lodge Administration Course (Membership Data Management, Lodge Governance, Management Guidelines and Ordinances Communication Strategies).
Registration begins at 8:00 am, Courses begin at 9:00 am, Lunch is at 11:45 am and course ends at 4:15 pm. Each full-day course costs $40 per person, which includes lunch and materials. Contact your Lodge Secretary ASAP if you desire to attend or you can contact Kim Hegg at khegg@freemason.org for further information.

BY YOUR SIDE!
Below is information on a very exciting event that is in support of the Grand Master's project: BY YOUR SIDE! Please read and if you have the opportunity to attend, you will be in for moving and inspirational evening. Please mark you calendars and bring other from your Organization and Support this very, very important event. In advance, THANK YOU!!
Lastly, when the opportunity arises, we are always to present some sort of Masonic Education to our Masonic Family. So with that being said, here is my 2 cents worth:
"Should I continue to pay my husband's Lodge Dues, even though he's not attend Lodge events any longer?"
With regard to our Senior Brethren and their rights & benefits. I have heard stories of sad scenarios that happen when our Senior Age Masons begin to stop going to Lodge, for any number of reasons. Sometimes the families of these Brothers see them not going to Lodge as uniterested and they wonder why they are still paying their Lodge dues. Perhaps the following message will help with the understanding of why it is SO IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE PAYING DUES, even if the Brothers aren't attending Lodge.
After a time of not having the dues paid, the Brethren will be Suspended for Non-Payment of Dues (SNPD). All of the rights and privileges are suspended as well at that time.
Here is what our Brothers lose when Suspended for Non-Payment of Dues:
*Loses the right to received 25, 50 and 75 year membership recognition
*Loses his right to belong to other Masonic Bodies (Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, etc)
*Loses the right to attend HIS, or any other, Lodge
*Loses the right to discuss intimate Lodge matters with a Brother
*Loses the right to ballot upon the membership of a prospective member
*Loses the right to receive Senior Outreach support from the Masonic Homes, in their own community
*Loses the right to move into one of the Masonic Homes in California
and
*Loses he right to have a Masonic Funeral, unless specially voted on by the Lodge.
Now, as if that isn't enough, here is what the family of these Masons can lose:
*Loses the right to belong to a concordant body (Job's Daughters, Eastern Star, Amaranth, Daughters of the Niles, etc) because their only Masonic connection has been "cut".
*Loses the right for the Widow receive Senior Outreach support from the Masonic Homes, in their own community
*Loses the right for the Widow to move into one of the Masonic Homes in California
*Loses the right for the children, grandchildren, etc to receive certain Masonic College Scholarships
Let me state, solidly and profoundly, "if our Brothers families cease paying the yearly dues to the lodge they belong to, great losses can be had by all concerned".
So, if your Husband, Uncle, Father, Grandfather, Brother, etc, is no longer attending Lodge, please...take these things into serious consideration before ceasing the payment of his dues, and thereby breaking his link with the greatest fraternity in the world, and, before breaking the link that may hurt him and his family (long term). I know that most of us Masons hold these rights and privileges very, very close to our hearts; not just for our own sake but as a way for us to take care of our families when we no longer can!
Please feel free to copy and pass this on to your Trestleboard/Newsletter Editors and to anyone who can make a difference in our Older Brothers lives and to ensure our gift to their families!
Have a Great Summer. I will probably see many of you at some event in the next few months. God Bless you all and God Bless America!!!
Sincerely and Fraternally,
John Cover Spear, PM

Just a reminder to the Masons, their Ladies, and friends;
We have our “13th Annual V.A. Hospital BBQ at Loma Linda” this Saturday, May 28th. Come down and support our veterans and the staff that cares for them. We’ll have Civil War Reenactment Soldiers, a Civil War era brass band, and a Mountain man with miniature donkeys. This event continues to grow every year. This year, all 3 lodges in the 818th Masonic District are participating, as well as friends and neighboring community volunteers. We plan on meeting there at 10:00am and serving around 11:00am or so. This is one of our major community events of the year, so your attendance is requested.
Also on Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day) we will be at the Riverside National Cemetery to present a Masonic Wreath on behalf of all Masons, to all the Masons who have served this country. We plan on meeting at Riverside National at 9:30am.
Both of these events are an important part of what Masons do.

We also made an adjustment for children under 12. Their tickets will be $12.00 instead of $25.00. We also had another work party at the lodge this past Saturday from 8:00am ‘til 1:00pm and once again no one attended. I did manage to get the front porch pressure washed and the ramp wall resurfaced with new stucco as well as some scratch coating on other areas of the porch that will require additional coats to finish. We really need to help each other to get our lodge ready for our celebration.
Have a great week and we’ll see you at Lodge.

Masonry - is the world’s first and largest fraternal organization. It is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to help make
the world a better place. As Masons, we lead by example, give back to our communities and support numerous Masonic philanthropies. We invest in children, our neighborhoods and our future. With over 2 million Masons in the US and 5 million worldwide, we’ve established a strong and highly respected local, national and international presence. California has nearly 80,000 Masons and about 350 lodges throughout the state. Now here’s how you fit in; We have been a very active lodge but only because each of you remember why you joined and get involved. Lately we have been actively supporting “Make-A-Wish” events for the last couple of years in the Inland Empire and have another chance to participate in April. On the 16th of April they will be having their first ever Walk for Wishes in Orange County. We have a team of walkers doing the 2 mile walk and invite each and every one of you to join us! www.wishocie.org What a great way to help out you community like Masons do…

What a fantastic turn out for the Masonic Sweet Hearts Luncheon. We had anywhere between one to three Masons sitting at each table with the widows. Stories were shared, songs were sung, gifts on behalf of the lodge were given, and tears were shed in remembrance. It was great to have the Ladies out and engaged in activities and the Lodge members there to enjoy it with them. I thank you all for coming out for this special event. Please don’t forget about Monday’s special degree for Richard Scott. Details are below. Please come out and support any and all events that you can.

When did you last attend a degree, visit with a brother you hadn’t fellowshipped with in years, and enjoy the ritual’s harmonious syntax to a new depth of meaningful wisdom for yourself personally?
My brethren, I am asking you these questions because I sincerely want you to fully enjoy your rights and privileges of this worshipful Lodge as all brothers have who have gone this way before. I hope you will respond and let me know what you would like to get out of Freemasonry and your Lodge. I hope you will come to either a dinner or Stated meeting; a dinner and program; or a degree and fellowship, sharing yourself with your brethren. We want to get to know you. We want to grip your right hand in the continuance of friendship and brotherly love.
Do you need a ride or won’t drive after dark, call me. Do you feel you have forgotten some of the ritual and don’t want to embarrass yourself? My brethren, we are in this Fraternity to aid and assist one another. I desire to grip your hand in friendship and brotherly love and welcome you with sincere greetings. Will you come fellowship with us?

Well the New Year has begun and time is once again
flying by faster than I can handle and we are already
headed for February, installation was on the 15th and by
the time you are reading this I will have been installed as
the Junior Warden. I am very excited about the upcoming
year, Robert has a lot of plans and great ideas and I am
looking forward to helping our lodge grow, change, and
prosper not only this year but for every year in the future.
At this month’s stated meeting we will be having a
“Walkabout” before the stated meeting dinner, it is an
opportunity for those who are interested in masonry to take
a look inside and see what we do. If you know anyone that
has always wanted to know just a little more, bring them
down for a night of fun and information.
This is a special month for all you romantics, We are
having a Valentine’s Dinner and dance on the 12th; it will
be starting at 6:00 PM And ending when the soles of your
shoes are worn off. Chris is having a lot of fun planning the
event and Bro. Malinowski has a great dinner planned. We
are looking forward to a fun new event that will only get
bigger as time goes by. Please be a part of it we need your
support and would love to see a few old friends stop by for
the fun. If you still need tickets please contact me at any
time. My cell phone number is (951) 323-6633. I am
almost always available.
On the 17th we will be having investigation training,
another new event. for all active masons or any brother,
who is interested in learning a little more on investigations,
the new systems and ways we can learn about our up
coming candidates. This will help ensure our fraternity
stays the proud brotherhood it has always been.
We are also having a youth game night on the 25th at
6:00 PM. It’s an opportunity for the kids to get together and
just be kids. Its also an opportunity for the kid in all of us
to come out again. So if you have a child ,grand child or
are just a kid at heart come on out and have some fun with
us.
As you can see this is a very busy month and it is
going to be a lot of fun for everyone. We seem to have
something for all for the curious the romantic, the scholar,
and the young, (in age or at heart), We are not just doing
degrees down here we are enjoying life and each others
company. Hope to see you there.

Brotherly Love
-- by Bro. Ed S. Fernandez, Marshal
As a “newbie” to the Craft, I would like to share some
recent experiences I’ve had since I joined the fraternity
three years ago.
Although I come from a Masonic family – my father
having served for several terms as Master of Cavite Lodge
#2 in the Philippines, my brother, brother-in-law and
cousin all Master Masons – I have not experienced firsthand
what the words “brotherly love” truly mean. I have
experienced it from my family, which one would expect,
but coming from almost total strangers, as I’ve experienced
with the brethren since I became a Mason, is a whole
‘nother story.
Temescal Palms Lodge conferred a courtesy 3rd degree on
Bro. Phil Stekel of Chino Valley Lodge last December.
This was my first time experiencing this for a brother from
another lodge. I expected our usual high level 3rd degree
work, which we did deliver, but I was pleasantly surprised
by the high degree of enthusiasm and participation from the
brethren, particularly considering it was scheduled just
before the Christmas holiday. Prior to this event, there was
an email asking for support for this event, noting that it
would be a nice holiday gift for Bro. Phil. The way the
brethren of Temescal Palms responded, I thought, was a
very nice gesture. In subsequent communications with
Bro. Phil, he said that he now “feels a certain loyalty to
Temescal Palms” because that’s where he was raised to the
sublime degree of Master Mason. When I heard this, I
must confess that it gave me a warm feeling in my heart,
knowing that I was a part of this particular brother’s
memorable experience.
-6-
Two weeks prior to this event, I visited Reseda Lodge #666
in Van Nuys where they had a Masonic funeral service for
a deceased brother whom I had the privilege of meeting
through my sweetheart Cathy. I attended the service, not
knowing anybody else from that lodge. When it came time
to share our thoughts and experiences with the deceased
brother, I stood up, introduced myself as a Master Mason
from Temescal Palms Lodge, and proceeded to say what I
wanted to say. After the service, almost all of the members
ofLlodge #666 who were present came up to me, shook my
hand, welcomed me and thanked me for coming all the way
out from the Inland Empire to show respect for the
deceased brother. I was also invited to participate in a 2nd
degree conferral they were having that evening. I sat in as
the Junior Steward. I thought this was going to be
awkward, being in a different lodge for the first time, but
noooo! I was welcomed and accepted and I felt
comfortable enough that I participated in the ritual
flawlessly.
During the refreshments afterwards, I thanked everybody
for the warm welcome and hospitality. The response was,
“that’s our specialty.”
As I lay in bed that night, I thought about the events of the
day and realized I had just experienced something special,
something that only Masons can show for each other.
I realize that it’s just the very tip of the iceberg, that it’s
just a part of what Masons do, but to me, these two
experiences thus far define what “brotherly love” means,
and it means a lot to me.
Philanthropy at work!
We are committed to make a difference in our world through community service, volunteerism, and charity.

Passing on the Tradition
The rich traditions and core values of our centuries-old fraternity are relevant today and will endure for centuries to come. Again this year several lodges in the Southern California area, Redlands, Moreno Valley, Riverside and Evergreen were among those who attended our annual Christmas Caroling at the Loma Linda Hospital, located in Loma Linda Ca. Along with scores of family and friends were 5 service dogs that the lodges raise to visit hospitals and homes and the Make-A-Wish ambassador puppy, Doc “Barker”. Several Past Master were also on hand to lend their voices as we sang classic ballads meandering down the halls. This year, we were also blessed to pass out over 70 home made blankets to the men and women at the hospital. All these were donated just for our Vets. Several of our Master Masons took this opportunity to teach their children the importance of making a difference in our world through community service, volunteerism and charity for others by bringing them along for the festivities. After all, “THIS IS WHAT MASONS DO….”

“The spirit of Giving during Thanksgiving ..”

Thanks to everyone who helped in the planning and, worked at this years
Thanksgiving Day Pot Luck lunch at the Loma Linda VA hospital again.
With three large turkeys, two hams, more mashed potatoes than you can shake
a stick at and all the “fixens”, we had plenty of food for all the staff and vets
that made it down to the recreation room. Several carts full of food also made
their way back into the rooms of our vets that couldn't make the trip. All four
of our service dogs, from left to right, Bella, Riley, Sophie & Stitch, were on
hand to assist with any morsels anyone wanted to share. This year we also had
the service dog from Make-A-Wish, Doc Barker, with us for the celebration. A
special thanks goes out to our own Jobie/Eastern Star/Vet herself, Amanda
Judge, who drove all the way from Arizona, where she is now stationed in the
Air Force. We cannot thank everyone who helped plan and volunteered
enough, but it is like we always say “THIS IS WHAT MASONS DO….”

sad that they have not received any mail in the 6 weeks that we have been

MASONIC EDUCATION FOR THE WEEK!!
This from the October, 2010 edition of the
Southern California Research Lodge F&AM
Research Paper
Lodge Jurisdiction
California Lodges have no geographical jurisdictional boundaries, i.e., an applicant for the degrees in Masonry may apply to any Lodge within the state, provided of course, that the usual requirements for membership are met. Thus, to Californians, the geographical jurisdiction seems strange. For Example, in some states a Lodge's geographical jurisdiction "shall extend halfway to the nearest Lodge meeting location by a straight line measurement in any, and every, direction'.
(Kentucky Home Journal, September 2010, pending legislation)

There is only two weeks left to send in suggestions for ritual changes, is there anything in the ritual that you think should be changed? Anything to add? Please let us know!
We will be assigning new stations for the next term, please think of what station you would like and let Mrs. Schoben know, also think of alternate stations (your top 3 pics). November 2nd is the deadline. Please remember that if you are interested in running as a line officer, you CANNOT discuss it with any of the other girls or adults!
