HISTORY The ENSIGN JOSEPH SHERWOOD MA YO DEMOLA Y LOAN FUND was started by Past State High Twelve President Frank V. Mayo and his wife, of Stockton, as an irrevocable trust fund in memory of their son, who was killed in an airplane accident on December 21, 1945. He attended Annapolis as a cadet for two years, resigned to enter the Navy Air Force at Pensacola, Florida. Upon graduation with the rank of Ensign, he was granted a furlough so that he could visit his parents in California for Christmas. With five others he perished in a crash in dense fog near Escondido. He was a member of Stockton Chapter, Order of DeMolay and of Delta Lodge No. 471, Morning Star Lodge No. 68, F. & A.M. in Stockton.

THE LOANS Since 1953 the ENSIGN JOSEPH SHERWOOD MAYO DEMOLAY LOAN FUND has helped worthy DeMolay, Job's Daughters, Rainbow Girls and Master Masons achieve an education of their choice in California which through lack of funds would not otherwise be available. Maximum loans are determined each year by the Board of Trustees. Loans are repayable without interest, following any termination of their College education or five (5) years whichever comes first, on scheduled, reasonable terms. At present, the maximum loans are for five (5) years. These Non-interest bearing loans of up to $3,000 per year are subject to change.

Over 1,500 DeMolays, Jobs Daughters and Rainbow Girls have availed themselves of their help. Over 165 young people are now in College in part to these loans.

CONTRIBUTIONS We urge you to join with those whose contributions, large and small, have built the ENSIGN MAYO STUDENT LOAN FUND to the level whereby a number of annual loans are available to these youths. Donations to the Loan Fund are fully tax deductible and will be acknowledged.
