The MSA (Masonic Service Association) VA Holiday Project gathers volunteers to visit VA hospitals during the holidays. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, more than 50 percent of residents have no close relatives. Our volunteers bring the joy of the holidays to these people. Many volunteers testify that the experience of giving this joy rewards them, here is one such story:
"One person we visited said that he wasn't feeling well this year and perhaps we shouldn't visit. I think he was feeling a little down that he was alone and didn't appear to have anyone visiting him. We began singing Christmas songs in the room, and the Vet took more notice of us and then noticed the dogs that we brought. He nearly jumped out of his bed with such joy at seeing the dogs and having visitors. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed. We saw the dramatic change in him immediately. He became very animated and spoke and told us stories of how he missed his dogs that he once had. He was so happy that we came to spend time with him! All of us saw the instant change and how he wished us all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Truly, we are the ones who are blessed because we witnessed many miracles on that today.
This year we are going again to spread the holiday cheer and want to make sure YOU are invited to join us! Starting right now, we are visiting the Loma Linda VA hospital every Monday Night for a BBQ football game from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM for the whole football season! This is our 8th year doing this and they love us visiting them. In November, we will also be hosting a Thanksgiving Lunch, on Thanksgiving Day at 12:00 Noon. If you would like to make something, help serve or donate to the event, please let us know. We did it last year and they were very touched by our thoughtfulness and warm wishes. We believe we have been blessed to be a blessing to others. Won’t you join us in sharing the holiday joy with someone who really will appreciate your kindness?

My Brothers,
I have been approached, because I am an appraiser of houses, (someone who determines the value of the property for the banks) by several of our Brothers in Southern California asking if there is some Masonic relief to help them from loosing their homes back to the bank. I cannot think of a more “dire” situation to be in and am looking for some way to assist them. Do we have some sort of relief, we can as a group can offer, and more importantly, if not, why not? Our four-brothers were the original bankers and stewards of the monies for everyone. Why don't we have a Masonic Templar bank for Brothers to draw upon in times like these? Where is the charity for these families in their hour of need?
I ask these questions not for an answer directly but to stir your imagination for the future. We should have a Credit Union type bank that is designed to give good council, admonish us when we error and put us on the financial track to be better stewards of our resources. If we learn this lesson in life, we will be better providers for our community and lodges as well.
Thank you,
